The New Year brings a great new focus for Tyne Gangway. We are currently completing projects for onshore and offshore applications across the globe. 2015 saw completion of an innovative 48 metre pontoon access gangway. https://tynegangway.co.uk/news/48mtr-pontoon-access-gangway-completed/
As you will know we are registered EN1090 Class 2, so that we can CE our own products. This of course allows even greater confidence for you in our already robustly tested products.
Last year we moved, due to demand into the Blast mitigation market. This has proved very successful for safety of operatives around the world by helping to stop projectiles during high pressure testing of equipment such as sub sea trees.
Our core business is in flourish too, with demand for our superior design and manufacturing skills. We often find our customers benefit from allowing us to design and build, rather than providing plans, the benefits being in production costs.
Some common popular products.
Self Levelling Step Accommodation ladder
Using a specially extruded step section which gives a safe walking surface through angles of inclination 0 – 55 degrees, the steps automatically adjust themselves to always remain horizontal. Accommodation ladders of this type can be manufactured up to a length of 30 metres. Portable self-locking stanchions, hardwood boatspar, shipside roller, bottom platform and mild steel shore roller are provided as standard. Options include folding handrails, stowage brackets and the provision of special sheave housings. Non-standard equipment can be designed to suit the existing stowage arrangements providing adequate information is made available.

Portable self- locking stanchions, hardwood boatspar, shipside roller and mild steel shore roller are provided as standard. Options include folding handrails, stowage brackets and the provision of special sheave housings. Repair and Maintenance
Clients should not rule out repair as an option despite the apparent poor condition of the equipment. Because aluminium is not effected by normal corrosion factors the base material can be worked without this factor to consider. The photographs seen here are the before and after shots of a telescopic ship’s accommodation ladder, rescued from the bottom of Dover harbour. Upon its return to the ship the crew were so convinced that a new ladder had been provided, they demanded class certificates, as well as the simple load test certificate we had agreed with the owner.
When considering the merits of repair, the client should take into account the cost of transport to and from our works, together with the additional cost for a load test, which if witnessed by a classification society representative can prove very expensive.
For standard equipment maintenance is minimal, other than the self levelling step accommodation ladders and passenger gangways which requires lubrication of the step mechanism to prevent wear and noise from the otherwise dry bearings.
More sophisticated gangway systems are provided with a maintenance schedule at time of handover. The company rarely undertakes maintenance contracts for it’s products due to the remote nature of the sites where this type of equipment is deployed.
